Returning to Toronto in 1909, he, like Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, began travelling to Algonquin Park and Northern Ontario in search of subject matter. For a time, he occupied the Studio Building which had been built by Lawren Harris and Dr. MacCallum. He also went West to paint the construction of the railroad through the mountains and he was an official artist for the Canadian War Memorials in 191 7. He was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, the Graphic Arts Club and the Royal Canadian Academy. He died in Toronto in 1941.
