Dr. Wilf Hathaway took his high school training at Nutana Collegiate from 1947 to 1951. He graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in 1957. Dr. Hathway is a self-taught artist who has exhibited at the St. Thomas Moore Gallery, other Saskatoon galleries, and in Edmonton. His work has also appeared in the Homer Art Calendar published on behalf of the Canadian Medical Association.

This painting was given to the Memorial Art Gallery by the students, staff, and alumni in honor of Miss Artha Branscombe on the occasion of her retirement. Miss Branscombe served as secretary of Nutana Collegiate Institute from 1942 to 1976.
