George Thomson, an elder brother of Tom Thomson, was born near Claremont, Ontario, in 1868. He spent his early years in Leith, Ontario. He studied law at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1906, he began to paint and studied at the Art Student's League, New York, and at Old Lyme, Connecticut. In 1908, he moved to New Haven, returning to Canada in 1926. He died in Owen Sound, Ontario, in 1965.

Given in memory of Tom Thomson in 1928.
