Emile Walters was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1893. He lived in both Wynyard and Saskatoon before moving to the United States. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and was the first person awarded a Louis C. Tiffany Foundation Fellowship. Beginning in the 1930s, he painted several series of landscapes in Iceland and historic sites in Iceland and Greenland. Over the course of his career, he received many awards and honors, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon given to him by the King of Iceland and Denmark. He was a member of the League of New York Artists, Art Students League of Chicago, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and Western League of Artists in Winnipeg. His work is in public and private collections all over the world.
